We've come a long way, baby!

Bethanie is finally finding her voice. She has been very proficient communicator through sign language which may have slowed down her verbal skills. Thanks to a friend, her daughter and their advice she is adding words daily. Here's the list to date:

Dad, Daddy or Dadda
Mom, Momma
More
Car
Fish (although it really sounds like "ish")
Ball
Bubbles
Baby (always accompanied by its sign)
Crrrr ( cracker)
Ruf, ruf (for Dog)
Hi (very clearly and the only non-shy act she is willing to make)
Uh-oh

At her 12 month appointment she was behind verbally, still drank a bottle, and still enjoyed the pacifier. She will have her 18 month appointment on the 20th and I can proudly say her verbal skills are up, she has gone 1 week without a bottle; however, she still loves the pacifier. In fact, if she sees more than one she will carry as many of them as her little hands will hold and periodically trade which one is in her mouth (she has been seen with as many as four). Two out of three is not bad. Maybe by the next appointment we can convince her that the paci is no longer needed. Yeah right! Any of you who know our Bailee will remember she loved her pacifier passionately too. It won't be easy. Wish us luck! I would love to hear what you have done to deal with a pacifier addiction.

GOOD JOB Bethanie~! She will be fine. I think everyone goes at their own pace and the guidelines shownn to us at the doctor's office are just that "GUIDELINES".

She is keeping up with herself.

I had a friend that a pacifier addiction problem with her daughter. Finally, (when the girl was 3) the pony fairy came one night and took the pacifiers, and left two pink ponies with braided tails. It worked, but the pacifiers were still missed at nap and bed time.

Have a great week!

My niece used to carry multiple passies also. As far as getting rid of them, I've heard a lot of people say they cut the tip off. The when they suck on them it doesn't work any more and they are over it. Maybe a litte extreme but an idea none the less.

She is such a cute, smart little girl! It is nice to hear them say words though. I love that stage! About the paci. I always wait until they are around 2 years old. Cameron said that it doesn't cause dental problems until after the age of 3. When I was ready to have Jarom get rid of his I cut the end off of all of them. This made it so he wasn't throwing a tantrum and mad at me. It worked!!! He carried them around for a day and a half and would tell people "boken" then he lost intrest in them all together. I will do that again with Porter when it comes time. Can hardly wait to see you guys again.

P.S. About the cutting idea. We only had to cut it once but the friend that had given me the idea had to keep cuttingit back every night a little at a time until there wasn't any more of the rubber part because her son sucked on them even cut. She had a good experience with this method too though it took a little longer than it did me.
