East Coast Autumn
Greg called one afternoon in July to tell me he was headed back to Delaware in October. I was bummed because we had just returned from a visit. I love the fall and I have always wanted to be see an east coast autumn and wished he had know about this trip before we had taken our trip in July. Greg called back a few hours later to tell me he had booked us a flight. Yeah!! Oh how he spoils me.
Even though we missed the prime autumn color it was still like nothing I have ever seen. Greg was probably getting annoyed listening to me ooh and aah over and over again.
Greg and Bethanie at the drinking fountain during our visit to Longwood gardens. This was a beautiful place that was fun for the whole family. There was a miniture railroad, children's garden and tree houses to climb.
Bea girl being silly.
In the observatory, they had created bumblebees out of plants. Too cool!
We were lucky enough to go the day they were having a pumpkin festival. These carved pumpkins are 800+ pounds and various artists came to carve them into these beauties.
A work in progress. The artist was thrilled that Bethanie recognized that she was carving a frog. I got the impression that the artists are used to working with different mediums you know carving pumpkins aren't done year around but they sure did great work.
The view from the Nauti-Goose restaurant. They had the best seafood bisque and obviously the best view.
Bethanie and I went to the zoo on Monday while Greg was at work and the Delaware Museum of Natural History on Tuesday. The zoo was adorable, it was only about a football field in length but we loved it. We practical had the place to ourselves so Bethanie was able to run free without me panicking and constantly telling her to stay close to the stroller. We enjoyed the natural history museum too, however, we should have gone there before the zoo. She enjoyed the movement of the live animals much more than the stuffed variety. Although the dinosaur bones were pretty cool.
The view in the zoo parking lot. I tell you I could move there just for the fall. I even drove Greg through neighborhoods looking at the houses. The area near the zoo was just wonderful. I know, I know, I would hate the winters and the muggy summers but the autumn was fabulous. I was in heaven.
Our last day was spent in Philly at the Please Touch museum. This has to be my all time favorite place for a 2 year old. It was all about the children and they were encouraged to play, run and explore. Bethanie enjoyed a black light puppet show, running the cash register at the child size grocery store, taking care of the babies in the hospital, building with dense foam blocks with dad, playing the huge piano with her feet, as well as spending time in the play areas for children 3 and under. She didn't want her binky, blanket or to be held for over 4 hours. This is highly unusually for this kid. Great trip hope we get the opportunity to return.
