Playing Hookie

During a random trip to Phoenix, the stars were aligned just right because my sister's busy schedule was clear enough we could take the little ones to the zoo.  Now my sister is one busy lady, she is the mother of 5 kids including one teenager, two tweeners, a 1st grader and a 3 year old.  Not only is she a mother she works and is studying to be a nurse.  First thing on the morning of our little trip she called to see if she should let Gunnar (the 1st grader) play hookie and join us for the fun.  Isn't the Zoo a favorite school field trip anyway?  It's the argument I would use. But I would go along with any excuse which allows me to spend more time with my nieces or nephews.

Our day included:
One hot day hence many breaks.

Stopping to pose for the silly mothers.
Viewing cool animals not to mention the three little beasts we brought with us. The zebras were actually close instead of being at the back of their habitat.  The favorite of this trip was the large ancient tortoise.  On this trip we witnessed him take a walk to the pond and take a dip to cool off.  He moved painfully slow but who could blame him.  I wouldn't move very fast either if I was carrying my home on my back.
Again the spider monkey exhibit was a favorite.
Here is the hookie playing kid.  Isn't he a cutie?  He is my dad's look alike.  If  you could see pictures of my dad when he was a little boy you would agree.  I believe, in this case, playing hookie was well worth it.
