Summer Rain

Growing up in the Phoenix metro area meant dry thunder storms with an occasional rain that would cause flash flooding. Still there was nothing like watching a great lightning show and the smell of the wet earth after rain. What better way to remind us of the awesomeness of God's creations. When we first moved north of Phoenix 20 years ago I would leave for class in the morning anticipating a warm summer day but would find myself caught in torrential rain by mid-afternoon. It took the whole of that first summer for me to figure out that I should go to class better prepared for the changing weather. Now I am almost always prepared for the afternoon rains and absolutely love the North Country’s summer monsoon storms.
Today Bea and I went for a walk.  Beautiful wild flowers abound after the summer rains begin.  Behind our home is an open space where there are wild flowers a plenty.  Bea decided she needed to collect one of every color.  Summer rains do mean all sun worshipping must be done by June 30, washing cars is a lost cause and we are always wiping mud from the dog's paws before letting her into the house.  But we wouldn't have it any other way.
Pictures taken in our backyard while watching Bea inspecting her wildflower collection.
